D-Day Anniversary

June 6

D-Day, June 6, 1944, was the massive Allied amphibious invasion of Normandy, France (Operation Overlord) to liberate Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s occupation during World War II. The reason was to open a crucial second front against Germany, relieve pressure on the Soviets fighting in the East, and ultimately defeat Nazi Germany by pushing them out of France and towards their homeland, marking the beginning of the end of the war in Europe
